Bharat Sevashram Sangha
Your child's school belongs to one of India's best-known monastic service organisations. Its ideals shape the way we teach.
Bharat Sevashram Sangha is a spiritual and philanthropic order of monks. It was founded in 1917 by Acharya Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj at Bajitpur, in present-day Bangladesh. It was registered at Kolkata on 2 June 1927 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Spirituality expressed as service
The Sangha teaches that spiritual life should not stay a private practice. It should show itself in service to others, in discipline and in noble character. The monks call this seva, selfless service, and treat it as a form of worship.
From its head office at Ballygunge, Kolkata, the Sangha runs centres across India and abroad. Its work includes schools and hostels, hospitals and medical camps, relief after natural disasters, and help for rural and tribal communities and for pilgrims.
Why education matters to the Sangha
The Sangha sees education as the foundation of a strong and caring society. Its schools set out to build knowledge, but also discipline, character and compassion. Swami Pranabananda Vidyapith carries that aim into Tollygunge.
